Helping Hands, a Division of Northreach Society, has earned accreditation through Food Banks Canada's Standards of Excellence program. Here's what that means for our community.
We are incredibly proud to share that Helping Hands, a Division of Northreach Society, has achieved accreditation through Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence program.
This is a significant milestone for our organization and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing safe, high-quality food support while treating every individual and family with dignity, respect, and compassion.
What Is the Standards of Excellence Program?
Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence help food banks across the country strengthen their practices in areas such as food safety, client care, food operations, and continuous improvement.
The standards are designed as a baseline to which the food banking network holds itself accountable, and they benchmark future performance improvements. They reflect the sector’s commitment to continually enhancing our collective capabilities to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.
Achieving accreditation is more than a recognition of our work. It reinforces our commitment to continually learning, growing, and finding ways to better serve our community.
What This Means for You
For the people we serve, this accreditation is a promise. It means the food you receive has been sourced, handled, and distributed to rigorous national standards. It means our client care practices have been measured against a national benchmark built on dignity and respect. And it means we are part of a network of accredited food banks across Canada that shares knowledge and innovations so we can all do better, together.
Thank You
We are so grateful to our incredible volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters who make the work we do possible. This achievement belongs to all of you, too.
Every bin you sorted, every dollar you gave, every hour you volunteered helped build an organization that meets a national standard of excellence. Thank you.
What’s Next
Accreditation is a milestone, not a finish line. We will keep using this framework to benchmark our performance, learn from other accredited food banks across the country, and keep improving how we serve you.
Together, we are working toward a stronger, more food-secure community and a future where no one goes hungry.
Thank you for being part of the Helping Hands community!
